Facility systems Technician -
Commercial HVAC & Humidity Control
The Huntsville Ice Sports Center seeks an experienced Facility Systems Technician to oversee the
operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the facility's HVAC, dehumidification, and humidity-
control systems. This role supports a 204,000-square-foot ice sports facility where climate and
mechanical performance directly affect ice quality, building conditions, and customer experience. The
goal is to proactively manage building performance and resolve issues before failures occur.
Department: Facility / Building Operations | Reports To: Building Operations Manager
Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 annually (40-hour work week; varies by experience/expertise)
Requirements:
-
5+ years of commercial HVAC service, maintenance, or facility HVAC experience.
-
Demonstrated expertise troubleshooting commercial HVAC, air-handling, and ventilation systems.
-
Strong working knowledge of commercial dehumidification and humidity-control systems.
-
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and control circuits associated with HVAC equipment.
-
Proven ability to work independently, diagnose complex problems, and take ownership.
-
EPA Section 608 certification required. NATE certification preferred.
Responsibilities:
-
HVAC & Mechanical Systems: Operate, inspect, maintain, and diagnose commercial HVAC equipment (air handlers, RTUs, ventilation, pumps, motors, fans, dampers, controls). Monitor performance to catch developing errors, and coordinate specialized repairs with outside contractors.

Dehumidification & Humidity Control: Manage building humidity to prevent condensation, fogging, mold, and structural damage. Monitor outside-air conditions, adjust systems dynamically based on occupancy and seasonal weather, and collaborate with the Ice Technician team to maintain optimal ice quality.

PM & Documentation: Perform and log scheduled preventive maintenance. Track system deficiencies, prioritize needed repairs, manage critical parts inventory, and assist management with long-term capital replacement planning.

Troubleshooting & Emergency Response: Systematically isolate mechanical, electrical, airflow, or operational problems using gauges, meters, and wiring diagrams. Establish safe, temporary solutions when immediate repair isn't possible. Requires flexibility for some evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency work.
Ability & Safety Requirements:

Ability to regularly walk, climb ladders, and inspect a 204,000 sq. ft. facility.

Comfortable working in mechanical rooms, on rooftops, in elevated spaces, and in both hot and cold environments.

Ability to bend, kneel, reach, lift, and carry commercial maintenance tools and equipment.

Strict adherence to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, PPE, confined spaces, and refrigerant handling.

Zamboni Driver
We are looking for a part-time Zamboni Driver to join our team. This position is responsible for maintaining the quality of the ice surfaces and reports directly to the Director of Ice Operations.
Requirements:
-
Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
-
Ability to lift 75 pounds.
-
Ability to concentrate in high-stress, noisy situations with large crowds.
-
Ability to work in a variety of environments including bright lights, dust, heat, cold, low lighting, loud noises.
-
Comfortable climbing ladders and operating scissor lift at working heights.
-
Ability to supervise and train employees in the daily operation of the ISC.
-
Ability to work with minimal supervision

High School and/or Vocational school graduate
-
Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Some experience in auto mechanics and HVAC troubleshooting desirable
Responsibilities:
-
safely operate the Ice Resurfacer to maintain the ice before, during, and after rentals
-
Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of all ice resurfacing equipment including blade changes, greasing, oil changes, and as needed repairs
-
Perform daily ice maintenance, including but not limited to grooming, edging, scraping, building, and measuring ice depths
-
Assist with yearly ice installation and removal
-
Maintain rink dasher boards and hockey glass including the cleaning and buffing of puck marks and replacing broken glass.
-
Assist with the installation and removal of hockey glass, dasher boards, ice deck, and spectator netting.
-
Assist with building systems including ice rink refrigeration system, HVAC, dehumidifier, water filtration
-
Maintain dedicated curling ice including flooding, scrapping and pebbling.
-
Complete all required preventative maintenance and repairs on the Ice King.
-
Complete all required logs and shift reports.
-
Complete building maintenance and light janitorial work as assigned.
-
Ensure building is opened for patrons in the morning and secure upon closing.

Skate Guard
We are looking for an energetic person to join our team as a skate guard. This position is responsible for keeping the ice safe and a fun space for everyone.
Requirements:

Responsibilities:

Monitor the ice to ensure all guests follow the safety protocols

Enforce rules and resolve conflicts in a professional manner

Be an excellent ISC ambassador by answering questions, offering guidance, and ensuring a friendly atmosphere

Food & Beverage Team Member
We are looking for F&B Team Members with strong customer service skills, food and beverage experience and the desire to be part of a successful team.
